Topic: “Being Right…Being Credible”.
We throw facts around as if we really know what we’re talking about when in fact we could be making grave errors in our conclusions using these facts. We make judgments regarding “Quality” using such parameters as Process Capability Indices (Cpk, etc.), GR&R, Surveys and Polls, Mean-Time-Before-Failure (MTBF), Reliability, etc. We assume that the value for these indicators are “perfect” or at least acceptable. Plato states that perfection does not exist except in the mind. Just as soon as we fabricate the object of our thought we will screw up, hence the need for a tolerance. There are two sources for error in quality: Statistical Error and measurement error. These errors will be examined as they apply to the afore mentioned parameters.
