Six Sigma SIG Update
Six Sigma SIG is our ASQ Raleigh Chapter’s special interest group that focuses on Six Sigma and Lean Six Sigma methodologies. In our meetings we showcase our members and special guest’s project work as well as tutorials on new and cutting edge quality tools.
Our meetings are very informal with a lot of question and answer time allowing us to delve deeply into some very interesting topics. Please be a part of our growing and interesting group. We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting.

Presentation Title: Simulation exercise to better understand the concept of variation and statistical tools.
Presentation Summary: In the exercise, participants form small groups. Each is given a bag of beads (some red and some white) and scale, and asked to estimate the percentage of red or white beads. They are allowed to sample (with replacement) with a spoon randomly, and weigh each set and count the numbers of red and white beads. I use the data collected to illustrate sample variation, estimation error, p-chart, and linear regression (predicting the total weigh by the number of red and/or white beads). This can be a refresher for people who are familiar with the concepts and tools and a good introduction to those who are new.
Date: February 27, 2018
