Improving Our Community Using Quality Tools!!!
I. What is Community Good Works All About?
ASQ members, such as you, helping local non-profits organizations deliver
more effective services to our communities through the use of quality principles
and tools.
- $5000 grant available from ASQ national.
- Provides members with an outlet to:
- Give back to their community,
- Practice newly acquired skills,
- Obtain the experience required for ASQ certifications,
- Learn new quality tools
II. Your ASQ Raleigh Sections Community Good Works Program
Project #1 - Durham Crisis Response Center
In early 2007 member volunteers from the ASQ Raleigh section partnered with Durham Crisis Response Center to kick off our section’s first Community Good Works project. The team is utilizing Six Sigma DMAIC methodology and tools such as the SIPOC diagram to improve DCRC’s records management system.
ASQ national has approved the $5000 Community Good Works grant for the ASQ Raleigh / Durham Crisis Response Center (DCRC) project. DCRC should receive the money by June 29th which should also be matched by the Steward Fund. In addition to ASQ national’s grant, SAS has provided a free copy of their latest JMP software and the ASQ Raleigh section has donated $2800. All together, along with volunteer assistance, we should have the resources available to begin the improvement phase of this project.

Project #2 - YMCA (Seeking ASQ member volunteers for this project)
On May 9th member volunteers from the ASQ Raleigh section held the first meeting with the local YMCA. The scope of the improvement project is yet to be determined, however Six Sigma DMAIC methodology will be followed. The ASQ Raleigh member volunteer is using this project towards the prerequisite to take the Six Sigma Black Belt certification exam.
